Mavis Memorial Fund

Invest in girls’ education and gain stronger families, healthier communities, and more resilient futures.

To honour the life and achievements of Mavis Osaah Bawuah, one of our much loved talented and dedicated students, we launched the Mavis Memorial Fund to raise funds for those whose passion for learning and craft embodied Mavis’s own passions as a textile designer.

The 2026 International Women's Day (IWD) theme is "Give to Gain," which calls for advancing gender equality through a mindset of generosity, reciprocity, and collaboration. It emphasises that when individuals and organisations contribute to support women, the entire community gains.

How You Can Give

£35 per month – Keep a Girl in School

Covers the full cost of one student’s education, boarding, meals, healthcare and mentoring.

£120 – Grow a Future

Provides girls with organic agricultural training and business skills

£500 – Build sustainable livelihoods

Supports female enterprises in creating textiles and produce for sale

£1,700 – Train a Midwife

Funds one year of midwifery training for a young woman from a rural community.

Every gift helps a girl build a future – and helps her community grow stronger.

Why Girls’ Education Matters

In rural Ghana, too many girls leave school early not because they lack ability, but because they lack access and opportunity.

Girls from marginalised backgrounds are far less likely to complete secondary education.

When you invest in a girl’s education, everyone gains. Families gain stability. Communities gain skilled workers. Health outcomes improve. This is the true meaning of Give to Gain.

The Mavis Memorial Fund

In Mavis’s memory, we have created the Mavis Memorial Fund to support young people into practical, employment-focused pathways after school, including textiles, sustainable farming, construction, creative trades, and entrepreneurship.

Through Alma Mater Education’s holistic model, delivered in partnership with the Toni Garrn Foundation, we bring together high-quality secondary education, safe boarding, nutritious meals, mentoring and practical vocational training so that girls do not just attend school, but thrive.

Together, we equip them with the confidence, independence, skills and real pathways

needed to shape their own futures and contribute to their communities.
