Facilities

We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in the ten years since conception. Wioso Senior High began as a single classroom block, to which we added further classrooms, then a boarding house for girls, then a science lab, a home-economics lab and boys’ boarding house and just recently, following our #farmtofork2020, a new kitchen and food-storage facility.

We now have capacity for up to 600 students, in an area where previously there was no educational provision beyond primary level.

All our electricity is currently generated by solar panels on site. While this ties in with our ultimate aim of environmental sustainability and self-sufficiency, it does also present challenges as we grow. An upgrade to the system is necessary as we plan for more facilities going forward.

In terms of infrastructure, our future plans include building a much-needed additional classroom level, a computer lab, and to invest in improving of our sports facilities.

Boarding Houses

With generous donations from the Toni Garrn Foundation & IEng (for the girls) and the Q Foundation (for the boys), we have now been able to complete our two boarding houses, creating accommodation for up to 580 students. This has been transformative for the educational and extra-curricular experience of students at the school, since they’re now able to study in the evenings instead of having to carry out domestic chores at home. We have seen the number of girls in particular at the school increase as a result of these facilities, with 0% drop-out rate, and 100% focus, producing exceptional academic results. This is also thanks to excellent pastoral care and a supportive, collegiate environment.

New Science Lab

Our science lab was also developed with the ongoing support of the Toni Garrn Foundation. Previously, students had to visit a neighbouring school to perform their science practicals. Now that the lab is equipped with new workbenches, Bunsen burners and a range of science equipment, all teaching and examinations can be take place at the school.

Home Economics Lab

The home economics lab, funded by the Bielenberg Family Trust, was completed at the end of 2020 and is in constant use by students to produce a range of meals, cakes and speciality juices.
